2 Harmonisations for Organ (manuals only) — David Llewellyn Green

This small collection by British composer David Llewellyn Green (1935–2014) offers two gentle and lyrical harmonisations of beloved tunes — All Through the Night and Morning Has Broken. Written in 1978, both settings are written for manuals only, making them ideal for smaller instruments or occasions where the use of pedals is not possible. Green’s clear and graceful harmonic language brings warmth and poise to these much-loved melodies.

All Through the Night flows serenely in slow 4/2 time, best registered on soft flutes 8′ and 4′.

Morning Has Broken contrasts with a brighter texture, using flutes 8′ and 2′ for clarity and freshness.

Together they form a simple, elegant pairing suitable for services, teaching, or quiet recital moments.

Why you’ll love it:

Two timeless melodies – Beautiful arrangements of 'All Through the Night' and 'Morning Has Broken', both cherished for their lyrical beauty and frequent use at weddings, funerals, and national ceremonies.

Manuals only – Perfect for smaller instruments or organists without pedal technique.

Expressive simplicity – Clear, flowing harmonisations that allow the tunes to sing naturally.

Accessible engraving – 2 pages of music notation presented within a 5-page publication, neatly typeset for ease of reading.

Lower-intermediate level – Suitable for organists around UK Grade 3–4, ideal for service playing or teaching. Performance time for both together is about 3 minutes.
