3 Pieces for the Reluctant Organist — David Llewellyn Green
This charming and accessible collection by British composer David Llewellyn Green (1935–2014) offers three contrasting Organ pieces designed for the less confident player — or simply for those seeking expressive, manageable repertoire. Each piece has its own distinct character, unified by Green’s elegant style and sensitivity to registration and balance.
Prelude on Tallis’ Canon (Glory to Thee, my God, this Night) – A gentle, lyrical meditation with expressive phrasing and soft tonal colouring.
Melody – Marked ♩ = 80, this piece places melody in the left hand, supported by gentle accompaniment figures in the right hand, with the pedal part accenting the end of the phrases.
Canon and Episode – An animated piece in 6/8 time, featuring lively dialogue between parts and a spirited rhythmic flow leading to a satisfying conclusion.
This collection by David Ll. Green offers music that is enjoyable to play, rewarding to hear, and ideal for smaller instruments or limited practice time.
